    Colleen,

I just figured out your message: “colleen-itfroz”

Sorry I didn’t figure it out sooner and sorry for the Challenge “freezing up” on you. We still have a few little bugs to work out. I’m sure you must have been a bit frustrated when it happened.

Your vocabulary seems to be outstanding, by the way. Keep up the good work. A large and varied working vocabulary will serve you well on the SAT and in life beyond.

    Hi Karl,

I love the Wordsmith challenge. I knew when I saw this online I
wanted to beat the top score. This is an excellent way to learn
new words and I thought it was really fun. For those wondering
I got tired, I didn’t lose. :) I am an adult with a “large and
varied working vocabulary.” I have been helping my son and his
girlfriend prepare for the SAT in May and I will definitely
direct them to this site! Can’t wait for more works to be
    added!

    Joanne,

How long did it take to reach 103,500? (Just curious.)

    Hi Karl,

    I didn’t pay attention, 1-2 hours? Unsure.

By the end of this week, we’ll be adding about 1,000 new words to the WordSmith Challenge. The additional works should make the Challenge more difficult.

1000 more words would be awesome!

    predominate != predominant

And cut the true/false. It’s easy to select false positives. A word can be matched with similar definitions which are distinguishable in multiple choice. But if one of the “close” answers is provided in true/false, one may think the answer is true when it really isn’t.

If it’s too much trouble to re-bind all the definitions in the database to eliminate the problem, then you could just get rid of true/false.

ePrep’s web developers are working on it today. Thus, the new words should be included sometime this evening. BY THE WAY . . . Considering that most of the new words are from Levels 2, 3, and 4, I feel I should clear the high scores in the interest of fairness. I’m sure our current high scores understand.

    Karen,

Are you kidding us? 408,460! How long did that take? Did you find a way to game the system? We definitely need those new, more difficult words.

Hold on a second. How can a score end in 60 when each question is worth 100 points? Very interesting.

    Karl said,

Well, I contacted ePrep’s Director of Software Development and posed the question above, along with When will the new words be added? Here is his response:

“I added in the new words and also tweaked the scoring, so if you have a streak over 10, you get a ‘bonus’ of how many your streak is x 10 on top of the 100…so wow, she must have rocked this thing”

Congratulations, Karen. You currently stand as top scorer without an asterisk (*).

    ironically, for the subject, a typo here… loose ! = lose : )

Nice catch, Sam. That’s one I do all the time when typing fast. Some of my others are “send/sent” and “form/from.” Unfortunately, spell check doesn’t catch them either : (

I just kept the challenge window open all day and came back to it when I was sitting at my desk. I’m a teacher and have a lot of brief moments of downtime when I can’t really start doing anything complicated, but I can answer disconnected questions. I finally quit because the game froze and wouldn’t load the next level! Karen

Thanks for the note, Karen. I will have ePrep’s web developer look into the issue right away. I understand your frustration.
